"I wanted the best of both worlds: a cozy and comfortable home that doesn't cost the earth," says Chantel. A complete Fronius PV system has made this possible and optimized the family's energy costs. At the heart of the 34.8 kWp PV system, the Gilberts have three Fronius inverters in use: one Fronius Symo GEN24 Plus and two Fronius Symo SnapINverter devices. This provides sufficient solar power for all electrical consumers. In addition, the self-generated energy is used to cool and heat the house, charge the electric car, and even power a large fish tank, which the family says they couldn‘t justify having if they didn’t run it off solar energy. "It doesn't get any better than this. Comfort and sustainability can work together," says Chantel enthusiastically.
The integrated system is complemented with two BYD battery storage units with a total storage capacity of 44 kilowatt hours. This gives the Gilberts maximum flexibility and independence in their energy supply. They are protected against rising electricity prices and are also supplied with energy during a power outage, thanks to the Full Backup emergency power function of the Fronius GEN24 Plus hybrid inverter. "A design for maximum power production and freedom," Chantel says with confidence.
To make optimum use of the PV system, the Gilberts charge their electric car with the Fronius Wattpilot. "The PV system also supplies the electric car with electricity and enables our family to drive with the power of the sun. In the 12 months that we've owned the electric car, we've never had to use a fast-charging station," says Chantel happily. This is because the Fronius Wattpilot makes particularly efficient use of surplus PV energy. Thanks to the automatic and integrated 1/3 phase switching, the PV-optimized charging box makes optimum use of even the smallest amounts of solar power.
"In an increasingly hectic world, where convenience comes first, sustainability often falls by the wayside," says Chantel. That's why the Gilberts are actively involved in the energy transition with their family business, Bluegum Electrical Solutions. The ten-strong team specializes in electrical installations and repairs and installs numerous PV systems on the roofs in their region. In order to offer their customers the best possible quality, Bluegum only uses inverters from Fronius. It was therefore clear that Fronius products would also be used in the Gilberts' own four walls. "It was an obvious choice. While we were discussing which PV modules we would use, we didn't even consider an alternative inverter," explains Chantel.
